John Tchicai

By approaching jazz from a wide scope, Afro-Danish-American John Tchicai has been continuously progressive throughout his life.

Tchicai became a leading exponent of the jazz avant-garde in New York in the '60s and a father figure for the European avant-garde after that. By a single-mindedness of purpose and action, his work still reflects what he's always been doing, which is to innovate and inspire other people, in a most refreshing way.

Tchicai has recorded with both John Coltrane ("Ascension"), John Lennon ("Life with Lions") and Albert Ayler ("New York Eye and Ear Control") he founded ensembles like "New York Art Quartet", "Cadentia Nova Danica" and "John Tchicai & the Archetypes"

"... he sounds like a man who feels so deeply about an issue that he quietly and doggedly puts his own point of view until those vociferous disputants with more superficial beliefs move on... he sounds like a highly individual, architectural improviser who submerges himself into the group with self-effacement... will someone please bring John Tchicai to Britain for a tour?" (Barry Witherden, WIRE)

John Edwards

John Edwards is one of London's most in-demand, uncompromising, imaginative double bass players, and one of the most significant players of his generation.

Since taking up the double bass in 1987 and playing with the Pointy Birds and the Cholomondeleys dance company he went on to play with B Shops for the Poor, The Honkies and GOD as well as busking in the street and composing and performing music theatre with The Great Explorers. Since the early 1990s he has built a reputation as one of the finest, and most in demand bass players currently active on the British and European improv/ jazz and New music scenes- a first choice for musicians such as Evan Parker, Louis Moholo, Veryan Weston, Charles Hayward and Spring Heel Jack- Other groups include BRUISE and the Obliquity trio with Alan Wilkinson and Noble.

A solo double bass cd ‘VOLUME’ was released in 2008 on the PSI label.
