MISS MOTH is informed by New Wave & Post Punk, but also classical music such as Schubert, Hugo Wolf and literary issues.
Rather than eclectic, the songs are a meltdown of material and loves, using personal, but not private, existential words that extend the every day, pushing into the surreal.
Some of the songs were written in the 80's in the band "Janet Smith" but they have been more than rearranged, now they have a fresh and hard edged contour.
The songs use many techniques, some are long strophic songs, some 12 Note row pieces, there are a few cover versions of John Dowland's "Come Away Sweet Love" & The Beach Boy's "California Girls".
There will be premieres of 7 new songs written specially for the Cafe Oto evening.
MISS MOTH can be likened to a "rough cut diamond", a chamber band that plays live and un-studio.
There is voice, guest vocals, electric & bass guitar & preferably an out of tune piano. The band always plays with a video backdrop.

CHRIS NEWMAN
'Chris Newman is one of Britain's great all-round artistic talents, famous for his outrageous songs, but just as important for his radical take on composition and for his work in the visual arts such as painting and video. Although working in different mediums, he treats each with the same basic approach. Born in London, Chris Newman has lived in Cologne, Paris and is now resident in Berlin. In June 2010 Spitalfield Festival presented a composer portrait of Newman together with his videos and paintings.
