Doyenne 001 Launch: Susu Laroche / Flora Yin Wong (duo) + Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki (live) + Marija Bozinovska Jones (Ritual) + Maria Spivak (live)

No Longer Available

The new DIY record label and book publishing entity Doyenne which focuses on the ‘divine feminine’ will be hosting an evening of rituals, edibles and sound. Susu Laroche and Flora Yin Wong will be performing together live for the first time following their split release on the label. Copies of the new book 002 - Singing To Spirits alongside sweet treats, jellies and petit fours will be made for the evening.

Susu Laroche

Susu Laroche is a multidisciplinary artist of Egyptian/French descent whose stunning LP arrived on Bristol label Accidental Meetings as a loose homage to Ursula L Guin's Earthsea. Her film work has been screened internationally including London Short Film Festival (UK), Samawah Cinema (Iraq) and Nihilist Film Festival (USA). In Spring 2021, she released her first photobook Chaos Rule Us via Wrong Eye Books, and in December 2021 her first album ‘Paridaiza’ via Xquisite Releases. She also releases music with collaborator Oxhy as the The Fertile Crescent.

Marija Bozinovska Jones

Marija Bozinovska Jones is an artist exploring links between social, computational and organic architectures, often in collaboration with other human and more-than-human forces. She has presented work among others at: Whitechapel Gallery, Abandon Normal Devices, Wysing Polyphonic, CAC in Shanghai, CTM at Berghain and transmediale at Haus Der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, Sonic Acts Academy in Amsterdam, Rewire at the Hague, MUTEK in Montreal and Buenos Aires, and at Somerset House where she holds a studio residency.

On the evening, she will be performing a ritual exploring embodied knowledge through psychedelic edible offerings.

Maria Spivak

Maria Spivak on Ecstatic Records is a musician and sound artist based in Cyprus. Her hypnagogic pop blends coolly melodic vocals, smudged synths and bare-bones DIY production that makes a virtue of “mistakes” and grit in-the-mix. A combination of 80s post-punk to ambient-pop and trip hop inform her music as much as her observations on Cypriot sociopolitics, culture, and nature - imperceptibly woven into her songs with a folk art filigree that feels timeless, recalling the low-key magick of everyone from Teresa Winter to HTRK, yet gauzily delivered from her own, enchanted perspective. In her latest work, she slips between melancholic guitar strums, lo-fi soundscapes and harmonies that rotate beguilingly from Greek to English. The record is set to be released in 2023.

Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki

Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works between London and Los Angeles. Her pivot into experimental sound began in 2017, and in 2020 she released her debut LP, SMDSii - an ice-cold noise and post-industrial record. In 2021, Ekaterina produced an über-minimalistic Take1v2 single for the Archaic Vaults compilation Continuing A Worn Out Tradition II and featured her recent sound project on Movement Radio.

Flora Yin Wong

Label founder, artist & writer Flora Yin Wong’s upcoming releases will be a second album on Modern Love, and via INA GRM following a residency for the Parisian institute's 48-channel diffusion system. Her debut album 'Holy Palm' was released on Modern Love and has featured on labels like PAN, Archaic Vaults, and Danse Noire and is currently working on remixes for Nyege Nyege Tapes and Animistic Beliefs. She has performed live at Atonal Berlin, Unsound and Semibreve Festivals, New York’s ISSUE Project Room, MACRO Roma, MUTEK in Peru, Buenos Aires, and Montreal, Volksbühne Theatre, SOTO Kyoto, The V&A Museum, Somerset House, The Jazz Cafe, and Cafe OTO, to clubs like Berghain, Printworks, Razzmatazz, WWWB Tokyo, and guested on shows for Rinse FM, NTS, Know Wave, The Lot Radio, and Boiler Room, with a trimestrial residency on LYL Radio.
