The Host is Barry Lynn (Boxcutter), a Northern Irish producer who has released the majority of his records through Planet Mu. The Host project sees Barry move away from the dancefloor into more ambient, psychedelic and new-age sounds, showcasing his live musicianship with Fripp-style guitar playing and analogue synthesizer work.
The most recent release under The Host alias is called Esalen Lectures, and is released by the Touch Sensitive label, who have this to say about it:
“Drawing from a wide source of tranced-out musical legacies, the Esalen Lectures is pitched somewhere between Ash Ra Tempel and Steve Hillage at their most freeform, and more underground New Age artists like JD Emmanuel and Ariel Kalma. Using sweeping synthesizer patterns and subtle field recordings to create dramatic arcs across the record, spiralling guitar squalls meet blissed-out, motionless womb lullabies and digitally-enhanced nocturnes to tell a weird story of induction, hypnosis and psychic disturbance.”

Ken & Ryu produces cosmic synth-funk, and has releases on Rudimentary records and Coja records under his own name, as well as several collaborations on Boxcutter albums on Planet Mu. He is also the drummer in the psychedelic drone-pop band Documenta, who have a forthcoming album on Touch sensitive records.
