A triple bill of Beijing-based artists hosted by the Infant Tree label, featuring Sun Yizhou, Zhao Cong and Zhu Wenbo.
Born in 2000, lives in Beijing. Plays one or more mis-operated appliances in real-time out of contradiction and uncertainty, in a state of irregularity or homogeneneity. Has been performing and recording with different musicians in different places from 2019 to the present. Founded the micro-label 'Aloe Records' in 2022. Organizing small experimental music gigs in Beijing called 'Aloe on-site' since 2023 on a continuous basis.
Zhao Cong started doing solo improvised music in 2016. Before then, she played bass in rock bands. In her improvised music, she uses all kinds of everyday objects, which she amplifies with different types of microphones to produce unfamiliar and unexpected sounds. She hasn’t had any conventional or even unconventional music education; her practice developed out of her everyday activities. She has both solo and collaborative releases on experimental labels from Beijing, Tokyo, Montreal and New York. She lives in Beijing.
Zhao Cong’s talents include deftly catching things in midair and accidentally injuring her fingers.
Zhu Wenbo lives in Beijing. He engages in many different music practices, for example electroacoustic music, tape music, acoustic music, improvisation, composition, and song writing. He also runs experimental music outfit Zoomin’ Night, which started in 2009 as a concert series and began releasing cassettes in 2015. Zoomin’ Night also organises cross-regional works and recordings, introducing lesser-known musical practices to new audiences.
