WOVEN ENTITY + KLAVIKON + STROBES

No Longer Available

Woven Entity offer a wholly improvised and extremely rich stew of spiritual afro jazz, dubby post punk, lo-fi electronics and eccentric ethnological forgeries.

Woven Entity

Woven Entity are a unique proposition. Built round the percussive talents of Patrick Dawes, Lascelle Gordon and Paul May (whose credits range from Groove Armada to Beth Orton to The Brand New Heavies to Alexander Hawkins), they offer a wholly improvised and extremely rich stew of spiritual afro jazz, dubby post punk, lo-fi electronics and eccentric ethnological forgeries. Comparisons have been made to Sun Ra, The Art Ensemble of Chicago and Can, to name but three. Bassist Peter Marsh and frequent collaborators keyboardist Ben Cowen and rising star saxophonist Julie Kjaer complete the lineup.

Strobes

Conjuring big beats and a vast array of sonic possibilities, Strobes flickers effortlessly between electro-improv, Afrocentric grooves and distinctively original hooks.

Dan Nicholls – Keyboards/Laptop
Matt Calvert – Guitar/Laptop/Keyboards
Josh Blackmore – Acoustic/Electronic drums

Klavikon

Klavikon reimagines ‘electronic’ music without the use of conventional processes - no loops, no laptops, no sequencers. Instead, pianist Leon Michener employs a unique system of amplified prepared piano. Augmenting the 88 keys with his own inventions and found objects - a custom made pick up, a robot dog- he delivers cascading batteries of percussion, sub-basses and abstract soundscapes. This amalgam of virtuosic technique and real-time analogue processing is at once connected with the dancefloor idiom of Detroit Techno pioneers and the Classical traditions of Stockhausen and Cage. The result is a fertile sonic territory, sincere in it’s eccentricity, restlessly inventive, that resists easy categorisation.
