Rice Corpse is Lucas Abela’s pick up band featuring a piano and drums rhythm section, counterpointing Abela’s unhinged glass playing. The line up is modelled on a trio originally formed in Beijing in 2008, who recorded the Album Mrs Rice for Yan Jun’s SUB JAM label. Since then the band has resurfaced with new Australian and French line-ups. For Otto a new line up has formed featuring MXLX’s Matt Loveridge on Piano and former Boredoms drummer E-da behind the kit. The band shows off the versatility of the glass as an instrument, the other players forcing Abela to play more rhythmically than his usually frenetic output as a soloist. Together they play a trance like mix of piano stabs and offbeat drums held together by the glass screeching noise.
