Los Pirañas is an international instrumental supergroup that has been pushing the boundaries of Latin tropical music for some time now. This band represents thé psychedelic sound of contemporary Colombia and has been spearheading the revival of the Colombian music scene.

For almost 30 year Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers), Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero, Ondatropica) and Pedro Ojeda (Romperayo) have been putting their eccentric stamp on Latinamerican styles like vallenato, Peruvian chicha, and Colombian champeta, just to name a few.
Los Pirañas combine these styles with a rock attitude, noisy improvisations and absurd musical humor. Think of Captain Beefheart in an exotic mood. Completely crazy, but very danceable and enjoyable at the same time.

Their European tours catapulted them on some great festivals already, like Roskilde where they rocked a crowd of 10.000 people, Druga Godba in Ljubljana and Best Kept Secret in The Netherlands, just to name a few.

Their latest album, Historia Natural, was released in October 2019 on the Glitterbeat label, just before corona kicked in. In 2022 the band finally was able to do an European tour again and then took some time off to pursue other projects.

Good news though, as Los Pirañas are back on track and working on a new album, to be released early March 2025, on Glitterbeat again.

Chupame El Dedo (suck my finger), is a collaboration between the Colombian bands Meridian Brothers and Romperayo, or to be more precise, between Eblis Alvarez and Pedro Ojeda respectively. It was created for a one-off live performance commissioned by the House of World Cultures in Berlin, for the Festival "Evil Music" in October 2013. The idea was to explore the death metal sound whilst adding strong tropical elements.

Because of the success the band still exists today. The first album was released in 2016 on Discrepant Records. Distorted voices, metal and even sometimes gabberhouse-like clichés are mixed with a tropical rhythm section made of salsa, cumbia, currulao & reggaeton.

Their second album No Te Metas Con Satan was released in spring 2019 on Souk (a sublabel of Discrepant), followed by an European tour during which they played a.o. Tremor (Azores), Alice (Denmark), and venues like Patronaat and Worm (both in The Netherlands). In 2021 they really killed it a Le Guess Who?.

Expect tropical disoriented madness, stylistic dislocation and curious sounds. Head banging mojitos!
