Live In The Void is a response to a cultural phenomenon known as the “Iranian Underground Music”; a defiant movement that emerged as a result of two decades of state oppression following the 1979 revolution in Iran, facilitated by the advancement of internet and the accessibility of satellite media in the late 1990’s.

As an enabling tool to subvert the authoritative power of the theocratic state, Internet has been realising the emergence of a (virtual) community, providing a platform for musicians and audiences to bypass the state control over production and consumption of “illegal” music in Iran. Confined to restrictions of the online (cyber) space, this music has also been significantly evolving detached from its physicality (for its lack of real world interactions, mainly due to remaining restrictions on performance of music as such, etc. in Iran).

In order to investigate this issue of immateriality, Live In The Void will alter and distort the conventional necessities of the live musical performance, in an attempt for a translation into the vocabulary of the contemporary media.

زنده در عَدَم واکنشی است به پدیده‌ای که با نام «موسیقی زیرزمینی ایران» شناخته شده است؛ جنبشی اعتراض‌آمیز که در پی انقلاب سال ۱۳۵۷ و در نتیجه‌ی دو دهه ظلم دولتی پدیدار شد و با پیش‌رفت اینترنت و گسترش دست‌رسی به رسانه‌های ماهواره‌ای در اواخر دهه‌ی ١٣٧٠ رشد پیدا کرد.

شبکه‌ی جهانی اینترنت، با ایفای نقش به عنوان ابزاری توان‌بخش برای به چالش کشیدن حاکمیت اقتدارگرای دینی، علاوه بر فراهم آوردن سکویی برای آهنگ‌سازان و مخاطبان برای گذار از نظارت دولتی بر روی تولید و مصرف موسیقی «ممنوع» در ایران، به وجود آمدن جامعه‌ای مجازی را نیز سبب شد. رشد و تکامل این موسیقی، به خاطر محدودیت‌های فضای (سایبری) آنلاین (و نیز عدم وجود تعامل در دنیای واقعی، به خاطر محدودیت‌های اجرای موسیقی در ایران،) به طور قابل توجهی، منفصل از جسمانیت خود اتفاق افتاده است.

زنده در عَدَم در راستای بررسی این عدم جسمانیت، دست به تغییر و تحریف ضرورت‌ها و الزامات مرسوم و متداول یک اجرای زنده‌ی موسیقی می‌زند تا در کوششی، آن را به واژگان رسانه‌های معاصر ترجمه کند.
