Monday 31 March 2025, 7.30pm
An evening of boundary-pushing audiovisual performances, showcasing the work of three experimental Sri Lankan diaspora artists whose practices explore and deconstruct pixel art, archival mac software, and sound.
Originally developed as part of a research project on sonic reclamation for marginalised communities, this event offers insight into how archival sonic and visual practices can serve as spaces for decolonial thought and creativity.
The event draws on collaborative discussions with the performers and legendary pixel artist Mark Ferrari (LucasArts’ Secret of Monkey Island), whose pioneering 8-bit pixel stamps, created for the software Flying Colors, have been reimagined by the artists.
The night will feature AV and DJ sets by Seth De Silva, Suren Seneviratne’s Missing Music project, and a new performance by Toulip Wonder, including tracks from her last record, Fortune Baby.
Seth De Silva is a Sri Lankan born, London raised DJ & visual artist. For over 12 years he has brought his unique brand of visuals to clubs & parties across London and beyond. Collaborating with seminal labels & collectives such as Body Motion, Never Sleep, Dialled In, Bone Soda, Algo Rave, Bokeh Versions and more.
His visceral DJ sets & performances, explore contemporary club sounds from his native London to global bass music & Sri Lankan folk rhythms.
Suren Seneviratne (b. 1986) is a prolific Sri Lankan sound artist based in London and Kent, UK. His conceptual project Missing Music meticulously documents obsolete music software, VST plugins and sound tools designed for Macintosh computers during the 1990s and 2000s. Originally conceived as an online repository boasting over 250+ archival entries, the project has since transformed into a compelling audio-visual improvisational live performance featuring Apple iBook and PowerBook computers authentic to the Y2K era.
As My Panda Shall Fly, Seneviratne has explored and pushed the threshold of experimental media for over a decade across record production, remix work, radio broadcast, film composition, theatre design, Net Art, interactive VR and exhibition.
Toulip Wonder is the moniker of Sri Lankan British artist and researcher Cassie Layton. As a performer, she has appeared worldwide at venues such as the Barbican, Cafe OTO, Tate, the London ICA, the Young Vic, the Royal Court, and the Hollywood Bowl. She has also voiced several leading roles in video games, including Lady De Sardet in Greedfall, Ashera in Xenoblade Chronicles III, and Zero in Final Fantasy XIV.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, Layton’s research, Sounds & Silences in the Archives of Empire, positions her as an artist at the National Archives, where she works to decolonise records through sound. Her DIY electronic music practice draws from net and video game art, ambient jazz, new age synthesisers and pop sensibilities. Last year, she released her debut album, Fortune Baby.
