CZN stands for Copper, Zinc and Nickel, the raw materials used by percussionist and sculptor Joao Pais Filipe to make gongs and bells in his portuguese studio. CZN is also the alchemical sound of Joao in collaboration with percussionist Valentina Magaletti (Tomaga, Vanishing Twin, uuuu). The duo create rich tapestries of hypnotic rhythms, evolving the sound of drums and percussion into vivid textures: visceral timbres and telescoping rhythms that surround and beguile, and which hint at the meditative states of spiritual jazz as much as the cerebral counterpoint of Minimalist Composition. Beginning with a one off recording session in Porto in Spring 2018, the duo have crafted a debut LP that will be released as a collaboration between Porto’s Lovers & Lollipops collective and Tomaga’s Negative Days label.

Rupert Clervaux is an experimental musician, writer, audio engineer and DJ, based in Mallorca and London. He was a founder member of Sian Alice Group (2007-2012), and since then has collaborated on numerous projects with, amongst others, Beatrice Dillon, Ben Vince, Zoë Mc Pherson, Spring Heel Jack, About Group and the Radiophonic Workshop.
As a solo artist, Rupert released ‘After Masterpieces’ in May 2019––his first solo-LP, and also the first LP to be released on the influential electronic label AD93. The record is a collection of six poems set to music, and features two collaborations with American experimental artist and singer Anna Homler. And since 2017 he has created four instasmlments of his ‘Zibaldone of CVX’ series––a project which sets audio excerpts of existing poetic texts, philisophical discourse and critical thought within a wide array of music production techniques––the most recent of which was released in February this year.
Extensive international touring and live performances in support of these projects have seen Rupert appear at All Tomorrow’s Parties (UK/USA), MONA FOMA in Tasmania, Rewire Festival in The Hague, Urvakan Festival in Yerevan, Brusfest in Moscow, SXSW, and London's Southbank Centre and Cafe Oto to name a few. His diverse and thematic DJ mixes can be heard on his regular LYL Radio slot, and his mix and mastering credits over the past decade include releases by a wealth of acclaimed experimental, electronic and improvisational artists.
Erna's music is created on drums and percussion, placed point blank facing each other in a loud performance of mania and meditation. By way of instrument preparation and processing the duo creates underlying coherent harmonies and melodies of synthetic and organic sound in an acoustic pandemonium with amplifiers and obscure electronics. Erna is Anders Bach on drums and Kristian Paulsen on percussion.
Erna is a drums and percussion noise-duo based in Copenhagen. They play amplified, cyclical music that is improvised, ritualistic and industrial. Their first release “Pan” is the first of two releases by the band in 2018, both of which mix occult and voodoo musics with the dynamic intensity of free jazz and the elastic monotony of contemporary experimental club music. This EP was released on cassette and digitally on February 19th 2018 via the duo's own experimental Copenhagen label Wetwear. The second EP will be released in late November with an upcoming full-length coming in the spring of 2019.
“Pan” is thematically centered on sagas and mythology; how myth achieves eligibility or physical space through the ritual. The musical rites on “Pan” are enacted through the cyclical movements of improvisation and rhythm-mantras with a concise yet frenetic sound. The A-side of the cassette offers a panic, erratic pulse to its narratives while the B-side is an extension of time.
