The Goodiepal Equation documentary film is the first feature length by the founder of Fonal Records, musician and artist Sami Sänpäkkilä. Having premiered at the Helsinki International Film Festival in September, we're delighted to present a special preview screening of it at OTO.
The film follows Goodiepal (real name Kristian Parl Bjørn Vester, b. 1974–76), a Danish musician, performance artist, lecturer and activist operating on the fringes of society. Goodiepal rides thousands of kilometres on a self-built bicycle that he uses to power his shows. He has released a record with a genuine 500-krone banknote embedded in the vinyl – priced at 250 kroner. Goodiepal has put together an exhibition for the National Museum of Denmark comprising all his material possessions, and he creates his art outside of customary institutions and norms.
“The film progresses in the manner of a travelogue and is accompanied by Goodiepal’s music and laughter. But beneath the joyous surface there is a more serious note: rather than just pondering the contents of art and theories, the documentary also depicts a loyal friendship and a person struggling with problems and illness in his own way.”
“Funny, touching and inspiring all at once – an advisable equation” – Helsinki International Film Festival
