R.Y.F.

R.Y.F. is the project of the Italian singer-songwriter and musician Francesca Morello, based in Ravenna. Her most recent album Deep Dark Blue, released earlier this year, is an underwater album, maybe even a deep-sea album, and features guests Moor Mother, Skin (Skunk Anansie) and Alos (Stefania Pedretti, ex of OvO and Allun). The sound is dark and muffled, as if in a sort of cradle, a blue bubble, a sea cocoon in which to wrap ourselves to regenerate and achieve peace, but also energy.

So Beast

So Beast are Katarina Poklepovic and Michele Quadri, producers, beat makers and composers from mixed backgrounds based in the Bologna countryside. Their journey through the deepest underground scenes in Europe and the Balkans has encompassed free improv, psychedelic, pop, punk, noise, the avant garde, multimedia and radio. Their monthly programme “Abstract Boombox” appears on Radio Raheem and they have created the music for Milan catwalk presentations for several years. Last year they released a new album, BRILLA.

Agathe Max

France-born, London-based Agathe Max, violin and viola player, beside different collaborations (Abstract Concrete, UKAEA, These Towns, Ondata Rossa) works on projects including electroacoustic composition, music and sound design for documentaries, animated movies, short movies, theatre, contemporary dance and art exhibitions. Max’s last composition Shadoww, journeys from blissful voice and yearning bow work on ‘Ylang Ylang On Heart’ through to intricate synthesis and pounding beats. It’s widescreen, panoramic music propelled by fervid energy, but never at the expense of detail and nuance. Partly inspired by shadow work exercises from her friend Louise Bolla – that is, a practice of psychological therapy which aims to connect with what’s hidden in the unconscious – Max’s music traces a parallel possibility in sound. Music’s ability, whether in a church or a club, to give a brief glimpse of being plugged into something beyond your own ego.
