Val Wilmer, with Maggie Murray, founded Format Photographers in 1983, the first all-women photographers' agency in Britain. Wilmer is known for her writing and photography around African-American music, for which she has received many awards. More recently, Wilmer has become a patron of the National Jazz Archive.
