ANTOINE CHESSEX, APARTMENT HOUSE & JÉRÔME NOETINGER – "ACCUMULATION"

ACCUMULATION: Premiere of a new work for Amplified String Quartet & Electronics

Following their fruitful first collaboration at Cafe OTO in 2014, Antoine Chessex, Apartment House & Jérôme Noetinger collaborate for the second time to present ACCUMULATION, a new work for amplified string quartet and electronics. Chessex wrote a score for Apartment House featuring dense clusters of acoustic textures treated in real time by Jérôme Noetinger with his analog setup made of two reel-to-reel tape recorders. Electronic accumulations and manipulations by the tape recorders transform the strings into dissonant layers furthermore diffused on a quadrophonic PA and resulting in an intense piece of experimental music.

To complete the evening, Chessex will present yet another side of his works, proposing a solo performance for tenor saxophone and backtape where his repetitive gestures played with circular breathing technique on the tenor saxophone are multiplied by the tape into a multitude of disorienting swarm-like cloud of sonic matter.

The works of Chessex have over the years crossed the boundaries between noise, modern composition, improvisation and electronic music. His compositions are characterized by textural density and tensions often resulting in sound masses addressing the physical dimensions of sounds and spaces.
