Beachers

Beachers is the project of London-based Daryl Worthington. He works in the crossovers between accidental and composed sounds, hi and lo-fi audio, with a particular interest in the beauty of the mundane. This takes an array of approaches, from explorations of the materiality and tactility of radio signals through to analogue synthesis, field recording, cassette collages, abstract guitar and sample-based computer music. Beachers releases have appeared on czaszka (rec.), Fractal Meat, Wabi-Sabi Tapes and his own ineffectual suns label.

“Most of these sounds would normally be considered interruptions, unlooked-for incursions into a peaceful state. But by transforming them into music, [Beachers] transforms his perception of the world, too. Rather than regretting what the noise adds to your environment, better to find what you can add to the noise.” Matthew Blackwell, Best Field Recordings on Bandcamp, November 2024, on 'There are no cicadas in this town'

"I love the purity of it. If you’ve ever fallen asleep with an off-the-hook landline lying on the bed next to your ear, you’ll be familiar with the hypnagogic dreamworld they conjure here.” Philip Sherburne, Futurism Restated, on 'Off the hook'

Conal Blake

Conal Blake is a musician from Glasgow. He currently plays solo and improvises with Li Song and Regan Bowering, using electronics and percussion. He also runs the Feedback Moves label.

Regan Bowering

Regan Bowering is a percussionist, improviser and sound artist based in London. Her solo work explores various combinations of objects and materials, drums and percussion, amps, speakers, and feedback. Her debut album Solos for _ _ _ _ spaces (Dec 2023, Bezirk Tapes) captures this process across a variety of settings, from cavernous concert halls to studios and micro-edits on a laptop. According to the Quietus, Solos is “a play of contrasts, contradicting voluminous expressions with confined phrases, taming resounding feedback with faint percussive flutters, but one that feels driven by the desire to craft electrifying drama rather than pure autotelic dissonance.” Bowering is one third of a trio with Li Song and Conal Blake, whose tape Music for Snare Drums and Portable Speakers was released on Infant Tree in May 2023. She’s currently doing a practice-based PhD in Music at Goldsmiths.

rainrainRainbow

rainrainRainbow is the solo project of Julia Dèng Hànzú, a multimedia artist, experimental musician and sound therapist born in Chongqing, China, and currently based in London, England.

As rainrainRainbow, she fuses her childhood training in traditional Chinese music with current interests in experimental approaches and sound therapy practices. Electronics and interactive systems are combined with extended techniques to plucked instruments such as the pipa and guzheng. Her music has a world-building depth, but in these intricate layers a sense of playful intimacy emerges, as digital textures entangle with environmental sounds and glimmers of stringed instruments. The results are equal parts surreal and comforting, alien and familiar. Gently augmenting reality rather than slipping into background ambience, rainrainRainbow generates spaces and places vibrating with possibility.
