Another excellent line-up from Bezirk Tapes, featuring Berlin-based composer, musician, and audio engineer, Weston Olencki, London-based percussionist, improviser and sound artist, Regan Bowering, and experimental musician, Me, Claudius, who uses everything from record players to skipping CDs, field recording, found instruments and sampling.
Weston Olencki is a composer, musician, and audio engineer originally from South Carolina, living now in Berlin. Their recent music deals with the non-linear relationships and unexpected resonances between experimental sound, geography, historicity, and (mostly American) musical traditions. They have presented work at the Borealis Festival, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Lampo, Black Mountain College, Roulette Intermedium, Jalopy Theatre, among others. Various recording projects have been released by Longform Editions, Dinzu Artefacts, SUPERPANG, Tripticks Tapes, PAGANS, Full Spectrum, Hideous Replica, Sound Holes, and Astral Spirits. Their recording/performance project, Old Time Music, was featured on Bandcamp Daily’s Best Experimental Music of 2022.

Regan Bowering is a percussionist, improviser and sound artist based in London. Her solo work explores various combinations of objects and materials, drums and percussion, amps, speakers, and feedback. Her debut album Solos for _ _ _ _ spaces (Dec 2023, Bezirk Tapes) captures this process across a variety of settings, from cavernous concert halls to studios and micro-edits on a laptop. According to the Quietus, Solos is “a play of contrasts, contradicting voluminous expressions with confined phrases, taming resounding feedback with faint percussive flutters, but one that feels driven by the desire to craft electrifying drama rather than pure autotelic dissonance.” Bowering is one third of a trio with Li Song and Conal Blake, whose tape Music for Snare Drums and Portable Speakers was released on Infant Tree in May 2023. She’s currently doing a practice-based PhD in Music at Goldsmiths.
Using everything from record players to skipping CDs, field recording, found instruments and sampling, Me, Claudius captures the musical and rhythmic events that exist in the most unexpected places in our environment. A perverse sense of chaos in order seeps into the shifts and structures of her music. Her percussion is sounds just on the edge of familiarity, the creaks, buzzes and whirs that infiltrate our subconscious. From the murk they congeal again and again into dub-affected rhythms. As if a glitch has somehow skipped out of a machine and wormed its way into disturbing the real world.
Me, Claudius is an experimental musician living in a village in Southern England. She has released music on Dinzu Artefacts, Bezirk Tapes and Linear Obsessional.
“…rhythmic, oddly melodic (there’s a constant bassline throughout), and kind of like some epic concrète jam session in its own way. Above all, it’s pretty funny. Even in the manic lunatic fringe hinterland of Dinzu, she sticks out as a particularly wonderful weirdo.” - The Quietus on Reasons for Balloons
