Super heavy-hitting double bill featuring Oakland, California's Black Spirituals, and Dutch sax/drums duo Dead Neanderthals performing with special guest, Sten Ove Toft.
Black Spirituals is a collaboration between two soloists who have found a new platform for the intersection of tone-generating electronic technology and the heart-thumping technology of acoustic percussion. This duet features a new tradition in conversant, duo vernacular dynamics that sparked a revolution in our conceptions of space, stage, ritual, performance, geography, praxis, brotherhood, relationships, rockin’ out, and more.
Multi-Aesthetic percussionist Marshall Trammell’s STTRCRFT platform articulates his commitment to the study of the worlds’ percussive arts in his multi-limbed Improvisation system. Utilizing super bananas electronic and guitar sounds, live processing, and heavy-heavy percussion Mr Watkins “weaves…undulating dronescape(s), of deep sonic swells and muted electronic buzz, utilizing analog synths, guitars, drums and percussion, cassette, Casio, bass, and of course electricity(!)“
The Dutch sax/drums duo Dead Neanderthals scorches its way through free jazz, metal, drone and minimal music, leaving nothing but cinders in its wake. Their self proclaimed New Wave Of Dutch Heavy Jazz is played at Intensity-level 12 and annihilation-level 15.
Norwegian veteran Sten Ove Toft is known for his ear-piercing and brain-shattering noise and metal outings. He toured all over the world to spread the gospel of noise, gaining a cult following of disciples of sonic destruction.
Both acts started their collaboration, to much critical acclaim, in 2015 with performances at the Utech Records Music Festival in Milwaukee, USA, and the Incubate Festival in Tilburg, NL.
MAG aka Magdalena Ågren works with live samplings of trombone, megaphone, voice, guitar, sound and the noise around her. The music is built up from scratch. From the smallest simple element it grows to a gigantic dystopian lo-fi orchestra that sometimes is restrained and suggestive, sometimes chaotic and wild.
MAG has have played more then 100 shows in Scandinavia, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Canada, USA and has shared the bill with acts like Lightning Bolt, Legendary Pink Dots, Trumans Water, Ora Cogan, Wildbirds and Peacedrums, The Skull Defekts. etc, and played at festivals/venues such as Mission Creek Music and Art Festival (San Fransisco), Arts Birthday (Stockholm), FakeJazz (Vancouver), Festival of Endless Gratitude (Copenhagen) and Dockville festival (Hamburg).
“She opened for us in Malmo and I'm still scraping my jaw from the floor after dragging it all the way back to The Netherlands. Marvellous, hugely inventive.... words aren't enough.” – Edward Ka-Spel, Legendary Pink Dots
