On Saturday 14 March, BBC Radio 3’s flagship new music programme Hear and Now will be presenting a live broadcast of a special performance by the great Spanish sound artist, Francisco Lopez, at Cafe OTO.
Appearing at OTO for the first time ever, Lopez will perform two forty-minute pieces, specially created for Hear and Now, mixed and diffused in quadraphonic sound through speakers placed in the four corners of the room. Lopez is recognized as one of the foremost artists working with sound today, and has developed a highly original and uncompromising sonic language that utilizes his own recordings made in some of the harshest natural and industrial environments around the world.
This is listening that demands - and rewards - undivided attention. To enhance the sonic experience within the space, the audience will be blind-folded and seated in concentric circles around Lopez’s central performance position.
