Paul Abbott / Billy Steiger (duo)

No Longer Available

Cafe OTO are excited to present the second live duo exploration from Paul Abbott and Billy Steiger, following their first duo performance ”Equibiaxial Stern” at Taktlos Festival, 2023.

Steiger and Abbott take the unorthadox instrumental combination of percussion, computer/s and celeste/a (a “bell-piano”) as a point of departure for a journey through and with the space of Cafe OTO out/into the musical unknown.

For over a decade Steiger and Abbott have been playing at the edges of improvisation, structure and sound technologies through various expanded live performances and collaborative projects. Beyond the sounds, histories, and imaginaries they explore through drums and violin respectively, their wide ranging interdisciplinary work has also involved writing, painting and moving image.

Billy Steiger

Billy Steiger was born in Howth on the 16th December, 1986. Now he plays the violin.

“Then he sat down by a pond and began to play a tune. As he played, the most extraordinary thing happened. One by one the fish in the pond began to jump out and fly about in the air. And what is more, they were all different colours and they were singing to the music.”

Patrick, Quentin Blake.
