"At the beginning of 2020, we started planning a community movement workshop at Cafe OTO's Project-Space. The first realisation of the series was due to take place in April 2020 in the form of a touch-based workshop led by Florence Peake. After a year of postponing due to Covid-19, CEREBELLUM has gradually turned into a collaboration between artists working across movement, poetry, sound and film. Drawing on the nature of the cerebellum (the part of the brain coordinating movement and balance), and the sound (bell) contained within it, a year-long thread has led to this coming together at Cafe OTO. A live stream re-exploring touch through sound: through hands playing with cameras; words and light; ceramics and concrete floor."

Florence Peake is a London-based artist who has been making work since 1995. She makes solo and group performance works intertwined with an extensive visual art practice. Presenting work internationally and across the UK in galleries, theatres and outdoors, she is known for an approach which is at once sensual and witty, expressive and rigorous, political and intimate. Peake’s practice uses movement, text, film, drawing, painting and sculpture that respond and intercept each other to articulate and extend ideas through different media. Her work explores notions of materiality and physicality; the body as site and vehicle of protest. The energetic, chemical body and feeling states of being are also key to her thinking and ideas using the erotic, sensual for queering of materiality. The subjective and imagined body as a force equal to our objective flesh bound world. By encouraging chaotic relationships between the body and material, she creates radical and outlandish performances, creating temporary alliances and micro-communities within the audience. She makes large scale paintings using the whole bodys physicality, interactive sculpture works, film and text.
Peake is part of the Hayward Gallery’s touring British Art Show 9 (2021). Zara Joan Miller is a British/Iranian artist and author of poetry collection BLUE MONDAY (JOAN Publishing, 2022). She works across film, performance and print – often playing with movement and sound as a way of reimagining a body’s rhythm. Her work has recently been presented at the Barbican Centre, Horse Hospital, No.9 Cork St., Ann Arbor Film Festival, Lausanne Underground Film Festival and has appeared in Fieldnotes journal, Hotel, MAP, Another Gaze and Worms Magazine. Zara has a record with Ute Kanngießer forthcoming on Reading Group.
Evie Ward (b. London, 1993) is a poet and writer based in London. Her poems have appeared in Art Licks, SALT, Cesura//Acceso, and '5AM' - a digital release on Takuroku with Ute Kanngießer and field recordist Daniel Kordík. She often works collaboratively at the intersection of writing with music and art, having recently read new poems, stories and journal fragments with Ute Kanngießer for a live performance at Cafe OTO and exhibited a site-specific poem as part of 'Like A Sieve' at Kupfer. She has conducted extensive research on Moki Cherry and continues to work closely with Cherry's archive when possible. Evie is currently working on a book collaboration of interwoven poems & drawings with Corinne Bernard.
