Another great line-up from the Infant Tree label, featuring French electro-acoustic artist, Jean-Philippe Gross, UK-based composer and improviser, Phil Julian, and Palermo-born, London-based musician, Luciano Maggiore.
At the crossroads of electronic and instrumental music, Jean-Philippe Gross develops a physical relationship with sound, playing with ruptures and acoustic phenomena.
In concert, he collaborates with Stéphane Garin (Dénombrement & Plan affine), eRikm, Clare Cooper (Nevers), Camille Mutel (dance), Jean-Luc Guionnet, Marc Baron …
Never locked into any systematism, Jean-Philippe Gross allows himself the extremes to take advantage of a wide field of possibilities and pays particular attention to the timbre, the grain and the quality of the sound, even rough. He works for dance, has composed for small ensembles (Dedalus ensemble, Phonoscopie).
From October 2001 to June 2009 he was engaged as a music program curator for Fragment (Metz, France). In 2019, he started the record label Eich.
Phil Julian is a UK based composer and improviser active since the late 1990’s principally working with modular electronic devices and computers.
Releases have appeared on labels including Superpang, fancyyyyy, Entr'acte, Harbinger Sound and The Tapeworm.
Luciano Maggiore is a Palermo-born, London-based musician whose work is characterised by the use of speakers and several analogue/digital devices (samplers, CD players, walkmans, tape recorders) as well as acoustic objects and addresses the performativity of the musical act, the perception of it, and the obscurity that emanates from it.
His main interests include mechanisms of sound diffusion, performance, repetition, endurance, non-human animal languages, dance, and folklore.
